The Town of Danvers announced Oct. 29 that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation will close a lane of Route 1 southbound at Industrial Drive overnight on Friday, Oct. 30.

The closure will run from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. the following morning to allow crews to perform urgent roadway milling and paving. MassDOT said the work is needed because of a recent large fuel spill at the location.

During the closure, large trucks and large vehicles will not be able to access Industrial Drive. Smaller vehicles and passenger vehicles will be able to get through with police detail assistance. The work is being done under the MassDOT Accident Recovery Program, with signage and law enforcement details in place to guide drivers through the area.

MassDOT advised drivers to expect delays, reduce speed and use caution. All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
