The Town of Danvers is asking residents to help shape a vision for the Endicott Street corridor, the area around the intersection of Endicott Street and Route 128. The town announced a public meeting on the effort set for Nov. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The visioning study is intended to give the town a blueprint for developing a zoning bylaw to guide future development and investments in the area. Danvers is working with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, the regional planning agency for Greater Boston, on the project.

The town said the Endicott Street area has been identified in multiple town plans as a place that could be improved to better meet community needs. The town's Housing Production Plan identified the area as a key site for potential housing development and recommended creating a community-based vision to guide new development. The town's Transportation Community Needs Assessment recommended "Complete Streets" improvements to make the area safer for road users and identified it as one of the most difficult places to get to in and around Danvers.

The vision could address preferred land uses, design principles and parking requirements for new development, along with future locations of roads, sidewalks, bike lanes and bus stops, and guidelines for new parks, playgrounds and street trees.

Under the project timeline, the project team researched existing conditions over the summer while residents were asked to take a survey on the corridor. This fall, the team is developing possible land use scenarios based on that feedback, and residents are invited to attend the Nov. 12 open house or take a survey on those scenarios. Results from the community feedback survey are expected soon. In the fall and winter, the team will refine the scenarios and develop recommendations, with residents able to provide feedback at a Planning Board meeting.

Looking ahead to spring 2027, the town has applied for state funding to continue working with MAPC to create new zoning for the Endicott Street area, a process that will include further public input opportunities.

Residents can sign up for an email newsletter from MAPC to receive updates, including about the Nov. 12 meeting. Questions can be directed to Brian Szekely, planning director, at (978) 777-0001 ext. 3019.
