Planning Board · Meeting of August 11, 2026
Danvers Planning Board approved an 88-unit apartment conversion at 51 Newberry Street and punted two other projects to September amid a three-member quorum. Attorney Nancy McCann said the former Residence Inn conversion, backed by a 2023 ZBA variance, will include affordable units at 50 percent AMI rather than the usual 80 percent, calling it "a significant benefit for affordable housing within this corridor." Parking there rises from 101 to 123 spaces. Precinct 4's Karen Nastic objected to tandem parking as something that could "pit neighbor against neighbor." The board continued 156-158 Maple Street over an unresolved drainage issue and continued the 6 Hobart Street freight house redesign after member James Sears said a reduced public-benefit restroom schedule "takes a little bit off for me," with members Lou George and Michael Decoulos absent and George's written comments still unread into the record.
