DANVERS — The Danvers Board of Library Trustees elected Noah Levitt chair over longtime trustee Julie Curtis in a contested roll-call vote at its reorganization meeting. Jessica Cargill was elected vice chair and Ken Lee treasurer, both unopposed. Curtis was reelected recording secretary after trustees rejected fellow member Corey's bid.
Outgoing treasurer Corey reported an ending balance of $734,845.15. The library director told trustees the state is weighing a 2 percent aid increase while Marblehead "is looking at a 50 percent cut to their budget," which could trigger a Danvers vote on reciprocal borrowing if Marblehead loses certification. Trustees also approved a code of conduct addendum removing language about resigning "to the appointing authority," and Town Counsel Kate Connolly is set to address a months-long question over whether trustees are personally indemnified against lawsuits.
