Human Rights and Inclusion Committee · Meeting of September 17, 2026

Danvers's Human Rights and Inclusion Committee reported a racial slur and a swastika found in public spaces since its last meeting. A liaison identified as Lieutenant Sullivan told the panel the slur was scratched near a vent by a public computer at the library and a swastika was scratched into a park picnic table, both since removed; he said he "can't believe I'm saying this" but repeated damage to playground picnic tables across town has stopped. Chair Dr. Charles Desmond outlined a draft framework to shift lengthy citizen comments to future agendas, saying it would "promote equitable participation." The committee approved its June 23 minutes by voice vote and heard that its mini-grant program, which funded eight organizations last year, is now collecting recipient feedback for a possible January presentation.

Members also previewed an October 17 Human Library event, an October 6 unified basketball game, and an October 14 Celebracion event.
