DANVERS — The Danvers Human Rights and Inclusion Committee heard a student's cultural-fair pitch and voted to move its menorah lighting to December 4. Danvers High School senior Andrew dos Santos presented survey data from 127 students and 42 staff showing roughly half of respondents feel less than fully connected to peers from other backgrounds, proposing a multiday, student-led cultural fair on food, history, music and language. "Having a diverse student body creates an opportunity for a deeper cultural understanding," dos Santos said.

The committee also heard from new interfaith liaison Reverend Caro Barshaw on the Essex County Community Organization's housing and immigration advocacy, and got an update on a library heritage celebration that drew 45 to 60 attendees. Members voted unanimously to hold the annual menorah lighting December 4 at 5 p.m. at the library slope, the first night of Hanukkah.
