Danvers Panel Delays Vote on School E-Bike Ban
School Committee · Meeting of October 5, 2026
Danvers school officials weigh an e-bike ban after calls for service nearly double. Sergeant Smith of the Danvers Police Department told the School Committee the town logged 56 e-bike calls and seven accidents in 2025, but is already at 84 calls in 2026, with 15 to 16 bikes seized for illegal speed modifications; no vote was taken, and Superintendent Dr. Dan Bauer agreed to research peer-district policies.
Members separately approved a $5,109-per-student class trip to Ireland and Scotland, a $150-per-season esports fee, and fees for a planned employee Early Childhood Center. Principal Strauss reported AP scores reaching 79.8% at three-or-higher, just under the state's 80% benchmark and up from 53% in 2022, calling the gain "incredibly difficult to do." CPAC Chair Julie Bolduck de Filippo said chronic absenteeism among students with disabilities reached almost 40% at the high school last year.
