Danvers Adopts 'Protect Act' Policy for Schools

School Committee · Meeting of September 14, 2026

Danvers School Committee adopts policy barring civil law enforcement from schools. The committee voted unanimously September 14 to approve, on first reading, policy ACL, known as the Protect Act, formalizing a procedure already in place that bars civil immigration and other civil law-enforcement actions inside Danvers schools; the superintendent said, "This protects students as well as staff." Members also approved a consolidated Pre-K-12 Student and Family Handbook, advanced the district's year-two improvement plan, and voted to raise the superintendent's salary 3 percent, a half-point behind other district bargaining units. Danvers High School's DECA chapter reported raising roughly $11,400 for its Purple Heart veterans monument project.

The committee tabled, until October, a vote on delegates to the Massachusetts Association of School Committees' annual meeting, to be held in Danvers in November.
