Zoning Board approves signage variance; Water Street permit modification continued.

Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of May 11, 2026

Danvers Zoning Board approves signage variance; Water Street hearing continued. The board granted Sign Design Inc. a variance for 249 square feet of aggregate signage (15 square feet over the 234-square-foot by-right limit) at 100 Independence Way for a Ross Dress for Less location in a 5-0 vote, with board members questioning illumination compliance and post-closing shut-off protocols. In a separate action, the board continued the hearing on a special permit modification for New England Home for the Deaf and Winn Development Company's 154 and 170 Water Street properties to June 8, 2026, after the applicants sought to replace a perpetual Danvers resident preference clause with one limited to initial lease-up pending Housing and Livability Committee approval, citing Fair Housing compliance.
