Danvers Special Town Meeting updated the town's governing structure for the first time since 1973. The town voted to petition the Massachusetts legislature to amend the Town Meeting Act and Town Manager Act, with a 74-28 vote requiring the Moderator Pro Tempore be selected from Town Meeting Members and a 52-49 vote removing the requirement that the Town Manager be a Commonwealth resident. The town also approved a Recall Bylaw allowing registered voters to remove elected officials through a multi-step process requiring 350 initial signatures and 20 percent voter certification.
The meeting additionally approved $29,458 in appropriations for unpaid bills and a $1,000 increase in retirees' cost-of-living adjustments.
