DANVERS — Planning Board rejects hockey rink rezoning; kennel amendment deferred. The board unanimously recommended against a Zoning Map amendment to rezone 249 Andover Street from Residential III to Highway Corridor Zone, opposing a citizen petition by Bay State RE Holdings, LLC to construct a youth hockey practice rink. Chair Lou George and members Jean Hartnett, Michael Decoulos, Dave Rodrigues, and Associate John T.
Saeger cited traffic hazards on Route 114, height concerns jumping from 30 feet to 55 feet, and the broad range of HCZ-permitted uses as grounds for the 4-0 unfavorable recommendation. The board also deferred action on a kennel zoning amendment, recommending it return to the Planning Board for refinement after finding the original petition too broad, though supporting the concept of regulating existing small-scale dog care. A mixed-use development proposal at 156 and 158 Maple Street was continued to May 12, 2026.
