New therapeutic recreation specialist joins Danvers, expands adaptive programs

DANVERS — New Danvers recreation specialist expands adaptive and inclusive programming. The Accessibility Commission welcomed Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Julia Ryan, who will oversee new adaptive programming and inclusive recreation initiatives. Matthew Mitchell, Senior and Social Services Director, reported ongoing accessibility complaint reviews including parking, door weight, and resolved snow removal issues at a town-owned property.
The Commission agreed to follow up on a YMCA facility door accessibility issue where door pull tension exceeded the 5-pound code requirement. Upcoming community events include the Fight for 504 Film Festival on March 26 at Danvers High School and a pilot Human Library event planned for October 2026 at the Senior Center with a $250 registration fee.
