Danvers High Football Climbs to No. 1 in Division 4

DANVERS --

HIGH SCHOOL

Danvers High School's football team is ranked No. 1 in Division 4, according to student representatives who addressed the Oct. 5 School Committee meeting. The volleyball team has built a 9-2 record this season, a sharp turnaround after winning only four matches a year ago. Girls soccer has clinched a tournament berth for the 33rd consecutive year. Golf is positioned to reach sectionals after missing out the past few seasons, and field hockey has secured a tournament spot after failing to qualify last year. Cross country runners have improved at every meet this season, with another meet held recently that produced several strong individual performances.

On Oct. 6, Danvers High hosted a Unified basketball game and rally at 4:30 p.m. against Salem. Student-athletes, the marching band, cheerleaders and other clubs were on hand for the event. A community dinner followed, with Texas Roadhouse donating food for attending families, according to remarks at the School Committee meeting.

Danvers High senior Olivia Henry, a three-sport varsity athlete who has served as captain in lacrosse and field hockey, was named this year's recipient of the Superintendent's Award for Academic Excellence. Henry has earned NEC All-Conference and Salem News All-Star honors and remains a state qualifier in indoor track, school officials said at the meeting.
