Danvers Board of Health addresses flu surge, opioid settlement planning

DANVERS — Board of Health reports surge in flu cases as opioid settlement planning continues. The board reported 140 flu cases (confirmed and suspected) since December 9, compared to 46 in the same period last year; COVID-19 cases totaled 65. Public Health Nurse Judith Ryan reported ongoing naloxone training at the high school and Riverside School.
The opioid settlement fund holds $500,000; the Town Manager requires approval of a detailed spending plan before funds are released. Planned actions include ordering nine additional naloxone boxes for schools and municipal buildings and scheduling a meeting to discuss hiring an opioid coordinator.
