Board requires explicit tobacco sales compliance for all retailers

Board of Health · Meeting of April 9, 2026

Danvers Board of Health unanimously updates tobacco sales requirements for retailers. The board voted to require the town's 25 tobacco retailers to comply explicitly with all federal, state, and local tobacco laws and ensure employee training, following Health Director Frank Giacalone's two-hour meeting with state tobacco enforcement officials. The FDA has approved a limited number of e-cigarette and nicotine pouch products for national sale; Massachusetts recognizes only those approved products.

Retailers must deplete non-compliant inventory by June 30. The board also discussed SAFE 2.0 surveys due April 10 and April 30, and community health initiatives including the 10th anniversary Light the Night Purple event on May 20.
